Narrative text adalah teks yang bertujuan untuk menghibur pembacanya. Terdapat beberapa jenis narrative text, yaitu:

Generic Structure dari Narrative Text adalah:

• Orientation : It is about the opening paragraph where the characters of the story are introduced.(berisi pengenalan tokoh, tempat dan waktu terjadinya cerita (siapa atau apa, kapan dan dimana)

• Complication : Where the problems in the story developed. (Permasalahan muncul / mulai terjadi dan berkembang)

• Resolution : Where the problems in the story is solved. Masalah selesai, secara baik “happy ending” ataupun buruk “bad ending”.

• Coda / reorientation (optional) – lesson from the story

Language Features dari Narrative Text adalah:

• Use Past tense (killed, drunk, etc)

• Use adverb of time (Once upun a time, one day, etc)

• Use time conjunction (when, then, suddenly, etc)

• Use specific character. The character of the story is specific, not general. (Cinderella, Snow White, Alibaba, etc)

• Use action verbs. A verb that shows an action. (killed, dug, walked, etc)

• Use direct speech. It is to make the story lively. (Snow White said,”My name is Snow White). The direct speech uses present tense.

Pembahasan

Menjawab pertanyaan pada buku Bahasa Inggris K 13 kelas 9 halaman 133. Pada halaman ini, siswa diminta untuk menjawab pertanyaan tentang cerita Legenda Tangkuban Perahu (Sangkuriang). Guru mengetes pengetahuan siswa tentang cerita ini sebelum nanti melengkapi paragraf cerita tentang Sangkuriang.

She was beautiful and kind-hearted. Her hobby was weaving  cloth. But sometimes she could be very lazy. dog. Tumang was actually a man  who had been cursed by a witch to become a dog. Dayang Sumbi married Tumang because One day her weaving tool  fell but she was too lazy to get it herself. She shouted out, “Can anybody  help me get my tool? If you are a female, I will take you as my sister. If  you are a male, I will marry you!”Tumang was a dog.Sangkuriang did not know that Tumang was his father.Sangkuriang killed Tumang because he did not want to disappoint her mother. He did not get any deer while he was hunting.If I were Dayang Sumbi, I would tell the truth that Tumang was Sangkuriang's father. The reason is Sangkuriang must respect to Tumang as his father.Dayang Sumbi  got very angry and hit Sangkuriang’s forehead with a piece of wood and  told him to leave. With a bad wound on his forehead, Sangkuriang left  the village.Sangkuriang did not kno that the woman he loved was Dayang Sumbi.She did not want to break Sangkuriang's heart.Before dawn, Dayang Sumbi asked the people in the village to burn the woods in the  East, and the light made all the cocks crow.Sangkuriang kicked the boat due to his anger.C. First of all, let’s thank to Allah SWT who has given us many mercies and blessing so we
can join this program without any troubles. Secondly, I would like to introduce myself.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, in this occasion I would like to tell you about environment.
Environment is everything around us. Environment consists of two main parts which are
biotic and a biotic environment. Biotic environment is everything around us which are
live, for example plants, animals and human beings. While a biotic environment is
everything around us which are not live, for example stone, water, wind, land and etc.
We must protect our environment as good as possible because it can influence our live.
As we know that Indonesia has many tropical forests and it is a source of nature which
can help people live peacefully. So as human being we should preserve the forest.
There are some efforts which should be done by all people:
1. Not cutting down the trees in the forest
2. Planting any kinds of trees in the barren area of the forest
Cutting down the trees in the forest can cause many disasters for human beings. Of
course it can cause flood because the rain water can’t be absorbed by the root of plants so
the water flows directly to the ground. There are many damage caused by the flood,
many people being homeless because of flood, the flood kill many kinds of pet, many
factories can’t produce anything, transportation can’t run well because the bridge is
broken and so on. How horrified the flood is…!!
Actually, the disasters above can be minimized if all of human beings can preserve our
environment and we must pay more attention to the environment whenever and
wherever. We must not throw away rubbish anywhere which can disturb the flowing of
the river water. We should plant any kinds of trees in the barren area or in side of the
road.
By doing those simple efforts, it means we have participated in the preservation of our
environment.

First of all, let us pray praise and gratitude to the presence of the Almighty, because of the grace and hidayahnya, we can gather here in our inaugural ceremony of the new school year 2013/2014, which is also the inaugural ceremony for juniors X at our high school.
My brothers, this time learning system that will be faced by you is very different from our previous school year, as a force in 2013/2014 you will receive the new curriculum, the curriculum in 2013.
Curriculum 2013 alone more focused students to learn independently. Of the students who had been told, into finding out. Here, the teacher is not the only source, you can have a variety of sources, especially with the rapid advancement of technology in this day and age.
In addition, there is a different in the subjects. Curriculum 2013 categorized them into two, namely the compulsory subjects and subject specialization. Subjects shall consist of Religious Education, Civics, Indonesian, Maths, History, English, Sport, Arts and Culture, as well as craft and Entrepreneurship. Each student has a load of 42 hours of lessons for class X, and 46 hours of subjects for class XI and XII, in which each 1 hour lesson lasts 45 minutes.

INDIRECT SPEECH  

Indirect speech atau dikenal juga reported speech adalah kalimat tidak langsung yang diucapkan kembali oleh pembicara yang biasanya meggunakan perubahan tense dari kata-kata yang diucapkan secara langsung. Indirect speech biasanya menggunakan kata kerja yang melaporkan (reporting verb) seperti say, tell, dan ask. Selain itu indirect speech juga terkadang menggunakan kata that untuk memperkenalkan kata-kata yang dilaporkan. Hal lainnya yang perlu diperhatikan bahwa dalam kalimat indirect speech tidak menggunakan tanda petik. Berikut beberapa ketentuan yang harus diperhatikan dalam mengubah kalimat langsung (direct speech) menjadi kalimat tidak langsung (indirect speech), yaitu:  

1. Kalimat Pernyataan (Affirmative sentence)  

Kalimat pernyataan adalah kalimat yang berisi pernyataan seseorang baik dalam bentuk kalimat positif maupun dalam bentuk kalimat negatif. Contohnya:  

a. You have to take a bath twice a day.  

b. You don’t need to borrow her your books.  

Kedua kalimat tersebut adalah jenis kalimat pernyataan(Affirmative sentence). Jika kedua kalimat tersebut dirubah ke kalimat indirect/quoted speech dan diriect/reported speech, maka:  

a. Quoted Speech: Mother asked Fayyadh, “You have to take a bath twice        Reported Speech: Mother asked that Fayyadh had to take a bath  

twice a day.”  

b. Quoted speech: My friend said, “You don’t need to borrow her  

your books.”  

   Reported speech: My friend said that I didn’t need to borrow her  

my books.  

Maka pola perubahan kalimat pernyataan adalah sebagai berikut:  

S+V+THAT+S+V+O/C  

2. Kalimat Perintah (Command sentence)  

Kalimat perintah adalah kalimat yang berisi perintah/permintaan dari seseorang untuk orang lain melakukan sesuatu. Kalimat perintah ini juga dibagi dalam dua bentuk, yaitu kalimat perintah dalam bentuk kalimat positif dan kalimat perintah dalam bentuk kalimat negatif.  

Contohnya:  

a. Open the door!  

b. Don’t open the door!  

Jika kedua kalimat tersebut dirubah ke kalimat quoted speech dan reported speech, maka:  

a. Quoted Speech: Teacher said to student, “Open the door!”  

   Reported Speech: Teacher sait to student to open the door.  

b. Quoted speech: My friend said, “Don’t open the door!”  

    Reported speech: My freind said not to open the door.  

Maka pola perubahan kalimat perintah adalah sebagai berikut:  

Kalimat positif: S+V+TO VERB 1  

Kalimat negatif: S+V+NOT TO VERB 1  

3. Kalimat Pertanyaan (Question Sentence)  

Jenis kalimat pertanyaan dalam bahasa Inggris ada dua yaitu kalimat:  

1. Pertanyaan berupa jawaban ya atau tidak, atau lebih dikenal dengan YES/NO QUESTION.  

Contohnya: do you have any homework today?  

2. Pertanyaan yang jawabannya memberikan informasi lebih. Yaitu pertayaan yang menggunakan WH, yaitu what, why, when, where, dan how.  Jenis pertanyaan ini sering dikenal dengan WH-Question. Contohnya: when will it start?  

Jika kedua jenis kalimat pertanyaan tersebut dirubah ke kalimat quoted speech dan reported speech, maka:  

a. Quoted speech:Teacher asked students, “ do you have any  

homework today?”  

   Reported speeech: Teacher asked students if/whether they had  

any homework that day.  

b. Quoted speech: He said, “when will it start?”  

    Reported speech: He said when it would start.  

Maka pola perubahan kalimat pertanyaan adalah sebagai berikut:

Pattern atau pola yang digunakan untuk membuat kalimat present continuous adalah :

  (+) Subject + is/am/are + Verb-ing

  (-) Subject + is/am/are not + Verb-ing

  (?) is/am/are + Subject + Verb-ing ?

Present continuous tense adalah tense yang pada umumnya digunakan untuk menyatakan hal-hal berikut:

Keadaan di mana sebuah kejadian sedang berlangsung.
Contoh : Andy is walking his dog.
Andy sedang mengajak anjngnya jalan-jalan.
Keadaan di mana sebuah kejadian sudah direncanakan dengan pasti.
Contoh : The exam is going to start at 10 A. M. tomorrow.
Ujian akan dimulai pada pukul 10 pagi besok.
Keadaan di mana sebuah perubahan sedang berlangsung.
Contoh : We are getting older.
Kita (sedang) bertambah tua.
