Verbs are words that describe an action or talk about something that happens. They take many different forms depending on their subjects, the time they refer to and other ideas we want to express.

Simple past tense adalah kalimat yang mengekspresikan kejadian yang sudah terjadi dimasa lampau. Verb yang digunakan yaitu verb 2. Terdapat 2 bentuk verb yakni:

Irregular (tidak beraturan) = Awake - Awoke

Regular (beraturan) = tambahkan -ed/-d di akhir kata kerja. = Stay - Stayed.

Situation 4:

Beni has just finished mopping the floor of the health unit. Mr. Dani praises

him. He also thanks him for that.

Beni: “You are welcome.”

Situation 5:

Siti has just finished practicing singing. She will sing in the celebration of the Kartini Day. Dayu praises her that she sings like a real singer, and she will get a big applause for that.

Siti: “You sing like a real singer. I’m sure you will get a very big applause.” 

Dayu: “Thank you. That’s very nice of you.”

Jadi, kalimat pertama pada situasi 2, 3 dan 5 adalah kalimat pujian (complimenting expression) yang kemudian diikuti dengan kalimat pengharapan (hoping expression) dengan menggunakan simple future tense (subject + will + verb 1).

Sedangkan pada situasi 4, kalimat pertama adalah complimenting expression yang kemudian diikuti dengan kalimat berterima kasih (thanking expression).
